For nearly two decades, Matt Wing has worked in communications in politics, government and tech. He’s been a senior advisor to the New York Governor, citywide elected officials in New York City and tech executives. In those roles Matt managed and mentored dozens of press staff, led communications on winning political and issue campaigns and ran tech product marketing.

Uber
Head of Work Communications
Matt worked at Uber for seven and a half years. During that time he helped pioneer innovative uses of Uber’s technology to steer political outcomes, engage its riders and drivers and shift the company’s approach to independent work. Matt held a multitude of senior roles including communications for the northeast region in the U.S. corporate communications, product communications and director for global driver and courier communications. He led the successful effort to prevent the Mayor and New York City Council from capping its vehicles in 2015, made the Uber Elevate Summit the company’s largest annual press event and played a significant role in the company’s successful Prop 22 campaign in California, leading to $13 billion in market value for the rideshare industry. He also helped author the company’s proposal to give independent workers new benefits.
New York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo
Press Secretary
Matt has also worked in politics at the local, state and national level. He was Press Secretary to Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in his first term and communications director on his successful re-election campaign for a second term. During that time he supervised press staff at all state agencies, including leading press strategy multiple state of the state addresses, state budgets and priority projects such as building a new Tappan Zee Bridge, rebuilding after Superstorm Sandy and reforming the power authority on Long Island.
New York City Public Advocate Bill de Blasio
Communications Director
Prior to working for the Governor, Matt was Communications Director to Bill de Blasio when he was Public Advocate and on his successful campaign for the office. Before that Matt ran Political Communications for the national labor federation Change to Win as part of their member to member campaign to elect Barack Obama in 2008. He also worked in the New York Attorney General’s press office and started his career as a Roth Fellow in the New York State Senate.
